Working with our Schools
The Mallee Landcare Group is proud to support and inspire the next generation of citizen scientists, environmental volunteers, and landcarers.

We deliver enriching educational experiences designed to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of our natural environment among students. Through hands-on activities such as seed collection, tree planting days, environmental monitoring, and bug surveys, we aim to spark curiosity and nurture lifelong environmental stewardship.
Our programs are carefully designed to take students beyond the classroom and into nature, where they can explore local biodiversity firsthand. Students gain practical skills in habitat creation and protection, while developing a meaningful connection to their local environment.
All programs are delivered by highly qualified staff, including trained scientists with expertise in the relevant fields. We are committed to creating unique, fun, and impactful learning experiences that empower students to care for and protect the natural world.
Involving school students in citizen science monitoring enables the children will be involved in all areas of collecting, analysing, storing and processing resulting data. It provides the students with an opportunity to contribute to ‘real’ scientific research with the resulting data being used for public information and conservation. Citizen science monitoring programs promote and foster environmental awareness and stewardship.
Tempy Primary School and Seeding Victoria
This project showcases Mallee Landcare Group working alongside local schools to teach students about native seed collection and revegetation in the Mallee landscape. Supported through the Victorian Landcare Grants program and Mallee CMA, the initiative gives young people hands-on experience in identifying, collecting and preparing indigenous seeds for future planting projects. Students learn why locally sourced seed is vital for restoring native vegetation, improving biodiversity and strengthening habitat for wildlife across our region. By combining practical fieldwork with environmental education, the program helps build skills, awareness and a deeper connection to the local landscape. The collected seed contributes to ongoing revegetation efforts, ensuring that future restoration projects use species adapted to the Mallee’s unique climate and soils, while inspiring the next generation of Landcare volunteers and environmental stewards.
